Learn About Historic Communities and Tourism at the National Trust Conference Preserve America Affiliate Session

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Preserve America program, the ACHP will offer a forum on “Historic Communities and Tourism: How Do We Connect the Dots?” in conjunction with the National Preservation Conference to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana next month. This affinity session will take place on Oct. 30, 2013, from 1-3 p.m. Representatives of Preserve America Communities as well as other historic communities and their partners are invited to participate. While registration for the entire National Preservation Conference is encouraged, it is not required to attend this free session.

Come hear speakers talk about their communities’ or region’s preservation and heritage tourism accomplishments, and how they are gauging the economic and other successes of their efforts. Case studies from historic communities and regions will focus on partnerships, collaboration and the potential for further development of U.S. heritage tourism. The topic will be explored in the context of the National Travel and Tourism Strategy, which focuses on easing overseas visitor entry, sharing our special places, and creating and sustaining jobs. The forum will include time for questions and discussion.

We would love to see and exchange ideas with participants from Preserve America Communities, Certified Local Governments and Main Street Communities, heritage areas and corridors, gateway communities to National Parks and other significant public resources, as well as communities named by the National Trust to the annual Dozen Distinctive Destinations list. The forum also welcomes others working with these communities, including state and tribal preservation officials, statewide and regional heritage organizations, convention and visitor bureaus and tourism offices.

To register for this affinity session, just send an email to with your name; title; organization/agency; Preserve America Community, Steward or Grantee status (if applicable); e-mail address and phone number. Please RSVP no later than close of business on October 25.

We look forward to seeing you in Indianapolis!
